2. The Line is busy or you need to dial a prefix to get an outside line or there is no answer.

If you have to dial a number to get an outside line, please follow the steps below:

Click on 'Start' α 'Settings' α 'Control Panel' α 'Modems' α select 'Dialing Properties'

In the box next to the section headed "To access an outside line, first dial # for local, and # for long distance."

Please substitute the # for the number that you need to dial in order to get an outside line.

3. There is no dial tone

If you receive this error message it means that your modem cant see the phone line. Please ensure that the modem is turned on and is plugged into the wall socket. Also try checking the connection to the wall by plugging a normal phone into it and ensuring there is a dialing tone.

4. The port was disconnected due to hardware failure

This normally caused by using the incorrect drivers for the modem. Try uninstalling and reinstalling the modem using the drivers supplied with it or contact the modem manufacturer for the latest drivers. In some cases this error message is caused by the modem having a hardware fault.

This can be caused by using incorrect drivers for your modem. It could also be caused by the modem attempting to run too fast, therefor you need to slow the connection speed down in the modem section of the Control Panel.
